Job summary

AppFolio seeks a Corporate Counsel, Product to partner with Product and Engineering, embedding legal guidance into the software lifecycle from concept to launch. You will enable velocity by translating complex U.S.

regulatory requirements into practical product requirements, with a focus on consumer protection, AI, tenant screening, and related areas. You will report to the Associate General Counsel, Product and work as an individual contributor in a hybrid, US-based role.

Qualifications

• JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school and an active license in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
• 5+ years of sophisticated legal experience focused on product counseling in a U.S. technology or SaaS environment.
• Significant experience in heavily regulated U.S. industries (e.g., FinTech, tenant screening, B2C).
• Willingness to adapt to shifting Legal team needs and evolving priorities.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product and Engineering to support the full product development lifecycle from ideation to launch and beyond.
• Stay current with U.S. regulatory requirements and translate laws into actionable product requirements.
• Identify and solve legal/regulatory hurdles early to maintain momentum.
• Develop internal playbooks, product terms, and scalable processes to support rapid product growth.
• Collaborate with Procurement and Partnerships on high-stakes agreements and integrations.
• Maintain understanding of AppFolio's tech stack to advise on data flows and API integrations.
