Job summary

Metra is seeking a Contracting Officer 1 within Procurement Operations to assist with review and preparation of simple low risk contracts, specifications, and solicitation documents, ensuring compliance with regulations and agency standards.

The role supports contracting processes, communicates with internal stakeholders and vendors, and helps monitor contract performance, while upholding safety and ethical standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferably in Business or Public Administration, Supply Chain, Materials Management, or Industrial Distribution, or four years' equivalent in procurement.
• Knowledge of basic contracting and procurement principles, practices, and procedures.
• Familiar with laws regulating contract and procurement activities to ensure compliance.
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for document creation and tracking.
• Familiar with ERP systems, procurement and materials management programs, and solicitation/contract management apps.
• Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with internal stakeholders and vendors.
• Good organization and analytical skills and attention to detail for reviewing contract documents.
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently or in a team.
• Ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment.
• Ability to analyze data, evaluate proposals, and identify risks and issues.
• Ability to maintain procurement process integrity and high ethical standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist with review and preparation of simple low risk contracts, specs, and solicitation documents.
• Gather market information on conditions, prices, and vendor sources.
• Assist with contracting processes to negotiate and approve specs, scopes, pricing, and terms.
• Provide contract administration support; monitor performance and project schedules.
• Communicate with internal stakeholders and vendors to support procurement processes.
• Promote safe work practices and maintain a safe work environment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.
