Job summary

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Process Safety Engineer for our Pennington, Alabama facility. The role sits within the process safety team and reports to the Chemical Process Safety Manager, driving value-based strategies and providing technical direction on process safety.

You will lead risk assessments, support incident investigations, and manage process safety information such as P&IDs and safety procedures, while mentoring operators to embed process safety into daily operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years in process engineering, process safety, mechanical integrity, or similar role in a PSM-regulated operation.
• Experience with Process Safety regulations (29 CFR 1910.119, 40 CFR 68) and PHAs.

Responsibilities

• Provide process safety leadership for the site with leadership-team collaboration.
• Foster process safety ownership through coaching and PBM-based practices.
• Lead risk assessments and PHAs to identify hazards and mitigation plans.
• Apply process safety competency to integrate safety into daily operations.
• Develop short- and long-term process safety objectives and metrics.
• Utilize metrics to monitor compliance and effectiveness of safety programs.
• Review equipment design specifications, safeguards, and operating procedures.
• Support incident investigations and drive corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Manage process safety information, including P&ID's, PFD's, and chemical compatibility.
• Mentor technical and hourly staff to embed process safety as a daily discipline.
