Job summary

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Process Safety Engineer for our Pennington, Alabama facility. You will join the process safety team and report to the Chemical Process Safety Manager, driving risk-based strategies, providing technical direction, and influencing leadership on process safety.

You will lead risk assessments, mentor operations teams, ensure compliance, and manage safety information such as P&IDs and PFDs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Safety or related field.
• Three or more years in a process engineering, process safety, mechanical integrity or reliability role in a PSM-regulated operation.
• Experience with Process Safety regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910.119 and 40 CFR 68.
• Experience with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).

Responsibilities

• Provide process safety leadership for the site with focus on reducing risk and ensuring compliance.
• Foster process safety ownership through leadership, coordination and coaching.
• Lead risk assessments and PHAs to identify and evaluate hazards.
• Apply Process Safety competency to make safety an operating discipline.
• Assist SH&H leadership with objectives, targets, and risk-based measures.
• Utilize metrics to monitor process safety compliance.
• Review process equipment design specs, safeguards, and procedures.
• Support and lead process incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Manage mill process safety information including P&IDs, PFDs, chemical compatibility matrices.
