General Summary of Position
MedStar St. Mary's Hospital has a full-time, day shift opportunity for a surgical scheduler. The Procedure Scheduler will schedule all elective surgical procedures for the practice, serve as a frontline contact for physicians' offices and patients, and demonstrate excellent customer service and organizational skills.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist in coordinating patient care by reviewing patient charts and procedure schedules to ensure appropriate clinical support.
2. Identify and forward referrals to the AR Department within 2 days of the service date.
3. Interact with practice staff, physicians, and others by obtaining and communicating essential data and supporting efficient patient flow.
4. Provide patient education and pre/post-operative instructions by answering questions to properly educate and orient patients.
5. Schedule procedures by entering relevant patient information into the Practice Management System to ensure proper record and billing preparation prior to appointments or procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• LPN or Certified Medical Assistant program graduate preferred.

Experience

• Experience in a healthcare setting, including regular use of computerized scheduling systems, required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9-CM, and CPT coding.
• Understanding of insurance policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Knowledge of cardiology and vascular terminology and procedures.
• Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system.
• Typing speed of 40 words per minute.

This position has a hiring range of $18.33 - $31.61.
