Job summary

The University of Utah is seeking an undergraduate proactive academic advisor to guide students through degree planning and progress, interpreting university policies and helping them make informed educational decisions toward graduation.

Under supervision, this role uses data analytics and student information systems to monitor progress, develop educational plans, and assist in referrals, record-keeping, and campus professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
• Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
• Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Responsibilities

• Meets with students to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues such as degree navigation, course planning to graduation, registration, and other advising-related information relevant to regional academic advising and university initiatives.
• Adheres to all university academic advising standards and practices.
• Facilitates students’ academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate educational plans; makes referrals for students needing tutoring or career guidance.
• Actively engages in campus-based professional development.
• Participates in delivering proactive advising strategies for assigned student populations using data analytics platforms.
• Uses enterprise-level data analytics and student record technology platforms to monitor student progress and guide interventions.
• Maintains students’ academic files documenting advising activity.
• Develops and presents academic advising programs to supplement or enhance academic success.
