Job summary

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is seeking an Academic Advisor to provide individual and group advisement to current and prospective students, supporting retention and degree completion. The role involves guiding degree planning, coursework, and progress tracking across multiple communication channels.

The position is hybrid, with in-person and remote work options, generally Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, and occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or four (4) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• One year of experience working with college students or adolescents in an advising capacity preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides academic advising to current and prospective students through in-person, virtual, phone, and email communication.
• Guides students on degree requirements, course selection, and educational/career planning.
• Monitors assigned student caseload and supports academic progress, handling holds and forms.
• Reviews transcripts, placement results, and student data; documents advising in MyMav.
• Maintains knowledge of policies; refers to counseling, tutoring, and support services as needed.
• Participates in campus events and professional development activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
