Job summary

Goodwin Living in Virginia (Alexandria) is seeking a PRN Speech-Language Pathologist to evaluate residents under physician referrals and develop treatment plans for swallowing and communication disorders. You will obtain approvals from referring physicians and manage schedules per policy, documenting assessments for Medicare funded programs.

You will educate families and health team members on rehabilitation strategies, perform in-services, and screen residents to identify those at risk.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science or Master of Arts degree from accredited college or university
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association
  • Current Virginia State Licensure
  • Maintains yearly CPR certification (adult only)
  • Possess the ability to deal tactfully and compassionately with residents, family members, caregivers, and co-workers.
  • Have the ability to motivate residents to participate as fully as possible in their rehabilitation programs.
  • Professional dress, demeanor and presentation
  • Be enthusiastic, flexible, and able to adapt to the changing healthcare work environment

Responsibilities

  • Provides Speech Therapy evaluations and treatments to overcome specific losses of communication and swallowing abilities due to disease and trauma.
  • Effectively communicates with the physician, nursing, and other team members to relay resident’s progress with treatment, through accurate treatment notes, progress reports, fourteen (14) day and monthly re-evaluations, and discharge summaries per the Rehab Department’s policies and procedures and Medicare guidelines.
  • Coordinates resident’s treatment with nursing staff, dietary department, occupational, and physical therapists.
  • Reports changes in the resident’s medical status to the charge nurse for communication with the Physician.
  • Participates in care plan meetings and discharge planning for patients on caseload.
  • Maintains accurate billing records of treatment minutes for PPS billing, units and treatment codes for Medicare B billing, and per facility protocol for Managed Care clients.
  • Maintain treatment schedules of patient’s under their POC, and coordinates treatment times with other treating disciplines on a daily basis.
  • Attends department’s Medicare A meeting weekly if possible.
  • Communicates initiation of Restorative Nursing Programs to Staff Development Coordinator.
  • Trains floor nursing staff in resident specific programs.
  • Participates in per review process for yearly ST competencies.
  • Participates in QA studies as assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation.
