Job summary

Sunnyside Communities is seeking a dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist to assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, and swallowing disorders across residents. The role emphasizes compassionate, resident-centered care within a healthcare team.

Position is PRN (as needed) with pay range $55-$60 per hour. Virginia license and CCC‑SLP eligibility preferred. CPR required or to be obtained within timeframe. Responsibilities include evaluations, treatment planning, and collaborative care.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Virginia.
  • CCC‑SLP certification preferred or eligible.
  • CPR certification or ability to obtain within timeframe.
  • Knowledge of evaluation and treatment techniques including dysphagia management.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work with interdisciplinary team to provide resident-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate residents to identify speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing impairments.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments and establish diagnoses.
  • Develop, implement, and modify individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions to improve communication, voice, language, and swallowing.
  • Educate residents on techniques and exercises to improve speech clarity and safe swallowing.
  • Establish measurable goals and monitor resident progress.
  • Collaborate with physicians and staff to coordinate care.
  • Educate residents and families regarding treatment plans and home exercises.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of evaluations and progress.

Education

Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia
CCC‑SLP certification (preferred or eligible)
CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
Knowledge of dysphagia management
Strong communication and documentation skills

Speech-Language Pathologist (PRN - as needed)

Qualifications
  • Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Requirements

  • Perform comprehensive assessments and establish appropriate diagnoses based on clinical findings.
  • Develop, implement, and modify individualized treatment plans to address each resident's functional goals and rehabilitation needs.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions to improve communication, speech production, language skills, voice quality, cognitive function, and swallowing abilities.
  • Educate residents in techniques and exercises to improve speech clarity, voice production, fluency, and safe swallowing.
  • Establish measurable treatment goals and regularly assess resident progress, modifying interventions as appropriate.
  • Monitor swallowing function and recommend appropriate dietary modifications, compensatory strategies, and adaptive techniques to promote safe oral intake.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, rehabilitation professionals, dietary services, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate resident care.
  • Educate residents, families, and caregivers regarding treatment plans, communication strategies, swallowing precautions, and home exercise programs.
  • Provide counseling and support to residents and families coping with communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation of evaluations, treatment sessions, progress notes, care plans, and discharge summaries in accordance with facility policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
  • Participate in care conferences, interdisciplinary meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education activities.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, facility, and professional practice standards, including patient confidentiality and safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the rehabilitation department and resident care services.
