Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Clinical Technician to join the Duke University Health System Clinical Laboratories at Duke Raleigh Hospital. The role supports procurement, processing and evaluation of patient specimens, and collaborates with clinicians to ensure accurate results for patient care.

Responsibilities include performing routine and specialized lab procedures, phlebotomy, specimen management, and contributing to quality control and safety programs in a fast-paced hospital lab environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; for phlebotomy assignment, a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation are recommended.
• Equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
• One year of previous clinical lab experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures.
• Prepare and initiate special tests and procedures including cytogenetics, general laboratory, Point-of-Care Testing, urinalysis without a microscope, phlebotomy, and specimen management.
• Obtain total volume, perform aliquot and distribute all urine specimens.
• Properly determine urine volume and label aliquot containers.
• Communicate professionally with patients, family, and medical personnel for problem recognition and resolution.
• Maintain clinical laboratory records, register/accession patients/specimens, and perform order entry as required.
• Perform quality control, safety, and infection control procedures to maintain regulatory compliance.
• Receive and process specimens and courier duties as required.
• Assist with word processing and office tasks as needed.
• Assist in orientation and training of new employees.
