Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Clinical Technician to support the Duke Health laboratories, performing routine procedures and specimen processing. You will collect samples, prepare tests, and ensure accurate labeling and timely processing in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires basic phlebotomy skills, familiarity with lab software, and strong communication with patients and healthcare staff. This PRN position may involve travel to other Duke Health locations and courier duties.

Qualifications

  • Basic phlebotomy and specimen processing techniques.
  • Knowledge of medical terms preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Effective professional communication with patients/customers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures.
  • Prepare and initiate special tests and procedures including cytogenetics, general laboratory, Point-of-Care Testing, urinalysis without a microscope, phlebotomy, and specimen management.
  • Obtain total volume, perform aliquot and distribute all urine specimens.
  • Properly determine urine volume and label aliquot containers.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, family, and medical personnel for problem recognition and resolution.
  • Utilize hospital information systems and software for records and order entry.
  • Maintain quality control, safety, and infection control procedures to comply with regulations.
  • Receive and process specimens according to area procedures and protocols.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new employees.
  • May float to other locations as assigned and courier specimens as needed.
