Job summary

Duke Health in Durham, NC seeks a Clinical Tech I/Phlebotomy team member to perform technical procedures on patient specimens within a state-of-the-art laboratory. The role includes phlebotomy, processing, quality control, and liaison with clinical staff.

Work week is Monday–Friday 6:30am–3pm with every 4th weekend. Requires a high school diploma or GED; phlebotomy training and related certification are recommended. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation recommended for phlebotomy assignments.
• Phlebotomy certification may be required depending on assignment.
• Two years of experience as a Clinical Tech I or phlebotomy certification with competency demonstrated is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized laboratory procedures related to specimen collection and processing.
• Prepare and initiate tests including urinalysis, phlebotomy, and specimen management.
• Obtain and aliquot urine volumes, label containers and maintain accurate labeling.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families and staff for issue resolution.
• Maintain accurate lab records, accession patients, and perform necessary order entry.
• Conduct quality control, safety and infection control procedures per regulations.
• Receive, process and courier specimens as required; maintain inventory and supplies.
• Operate hospital information systems and software; assist with routine office tasks.
