Job Description

Our lovely Sky Ridge community is looking for an on-call Cook to join our dedicated team of senior living champions!

Shift: PRN, "on-call" or as needed for Wednesday - Sunday (6am-1:30pm)

Job Summary: The responsibilities of the cook are to properly prepare all food items in accordance with the recipes and planned menus provided and to oversee the Dining Services Department under direction from the Director of Dining Services.

Essential Job Duties (Include % of time for each responsibility):

1. Arrive to work on time and prepared for your shift. 100%
2. Prepare all food items in accordance with planned menus and recipes provided ensuring the meals are appetizing, nutritional, and meet any special dietary requests or requirements. 100%
3. Ensure all food is served at the correct temperature and charted as such. 5%
4. Ensure there is proper plate presentation. 5%
5. Consult with the Director of Dining Services on any menu changes or substitutions. 5%
6. Ensure food storage areas are clean and organized at all times. 100%
7. Prepare food in accordance with all governmental, sanitary, and dietitian regulations as well as established policies and procedures. Report any infractions to Director of Dining Services immediately. 100%
8. Take care of food orders when they arrive in a timely manner. 10%
9. Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies. 5%
10. Ensure all leftovers are properly stored, labeled, and dated. 5%
11. Record temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers. 5%
12. Responsible for cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas. 100%
13. May supervise servers and dishwashers. 100%
14. Prepare upcoming menu items ensuring they are stocked and pulled as directed by recipes. 30%
15. Responsible for safe storage and efficient use of all items within the kitchen’s inventory. 100%
16. Promote a positive and friendly teamwork attitude. 100%
17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Dining Services, Sous Chef, and/or Executive Director. 10%

Requirements (Include education, experience, special skills, licenses, and certifications):

1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Age over 18 years.
3. Background clearance as required by government regulations.
4. Retain a Current Food handlers permit.
5. Minimum of two years’ experience cooking.
6. Negative TB test results.
7. Excellent communication skills including the ability to speak, write, and read English.
8. Ability to operate computer, necessary software programs (Word, email, Excel), scanners, copiers, and fax machines.
9. Ability to be professional at all times with other Team Members, residents, family members, and visitors.

Physical Demands (Include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, walking, standing, and sitting):

1. Must be able to lift and push 50lbs
2. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day and throughout the community
3. Must be able to stand for long periods of time
