Job summary

PitchBook Data, Inc. seeks a senior researcher to bridge Morningstar Indexes with the Institutional Research Group, advising on private markets index construction, eligibility, and performance measurement. The role includes authoring analyst notes and presenting at industry events.

You will engage institutional clients to understand benchmarking needs, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and help shape the index roadmap and methodology across private markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field (CFA or CAIA a plus).
• 5+ years’ experience in private markets research, index or benchmark research, investment research, performance measurement, or related field.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the private markets and indexing expert bridging Morningstar Indexes and the Institutional Research Group—advising on index construction, eligibility criteria, weighting, rebalancing, valuation lag, and performance measurement conventions specific to private capital.
• Author and publish analyst notes, methodology explainers, and thematic research on private market benchmarking and index-based performance measurement.
• Represent the index franchise externally by attending and speaking at industry conferences, client events, webinars, and media engagements; build an external profile for the index platform.
• Engage directly with institutional clients to understand benchmarking needs and feed requirements to index and product teams.
• Act as the primary liaison between Morningstar index team and PitchBook stakeholders to ensure alignment on roadmap and methodology changes.
• Educate teams on index methodology and use cases through trainings and materials.
• Contribute input on data inputs, coverage, and methodological trade-offs for new index families.
• Monitor competitive landscape and translate findings into recommendations for roadmap and research agenda.
