Job summary

Bowhead Family of Companies seeks a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician to provide Base Telecom Support at Whidbey Island, WA. The role is onsite and includes training after 30 days. Candidates must meet DoD/Navy standards and be eligible for a Secret clearance.

The position involves operating PBX switches, troubleshooting, patching, and scheduling weekly remote visits. Required education includes an Associate’s degree or higher in IT or Cybersecurity (preferred) or a high school diploma

Qualifications

• Must have an Associate’s degree or higher in IT or Cybersecurity (preferred).
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years of relevant experience required; 5 years preferred.
• DoD network experience highly preferred.
• Certifications: DoD 8570.01-M AT Level II, Security+; RHCSA, ACSS/NC/DC, CCNA, MCSA are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain government-owned PBX switches (Nortel Meridian Option 81C).
• Troubleshoot and repair switch issues; perform software updates and patching.
• Install and configure switch hardware; monitor daily operation.
• Support voicemail systems and IPE equipment; travel weekly to remote locations.
• Ensure switch systems meet DoD/Navy standards; maintain security clearance requirements.

Education

Associate’s degree or higher in IT or Cybersecurity

2 years relevant experience

5 years relevant experience preferred

DoD network experience preferred

AT Level II (per DoD 8570.01-M)

CompTIA Security+

Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician (PSTS-2026-26130):
Bowhead seeks a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician to provide Base Telecom Support at the Whidbey Island, WA. The Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician effort will provide telecommunications operations and maintenance (O&M). This position will require both in office and infield experience and duties. The Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician will provide telecommunications operations and maintenance (O&M). This position will require both in-office and infield experience and duties.
On job and verification training is offered for all full time Bowhead employees after 30 days of employment. This is an onsite position.
Sign on Bonus: $2,500.00
Job duties include but are not limited to:

• Operate and maintain government-owned telephony switches (PBX), including:
  • Nortel Meridian Option 81C
• Perform:
  • Troubleshooting and repair of switch issues
  • Software updates and patching
  • Installation and configuration of switch hardware
  • Daily operation monitoring
  • Support for voicemail systems and IPE (Remote Intelligent Peripheral Equipment)
• Utilize company vehicle to travel to remote locations weekly.
• Ensure switch systems remain fully operational and compliant with DoD/Navy standards.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Education:
  • Associate’s degree or higher in IT or Cybersecurity (preferred)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Years of experience
  • 2 years of relevant experience required.
  • 5 years relevant experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience within DoD networks highly preferred.
• Required skills or certifications:
  • AT Level II (per DoD 8570.01-M)
  • COMPTIA Security+
  • Certification reimbursement will be offered after 30 days of employment
  • Preferred skills or certifications:
    • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
    • Avaya Certified Support Specialist (ACSS) or equivalent
    • Nortel Meridian System Administration or equivalent
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
    • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) or equivalent
    • Key System experience sought:
      • Mitel
      • Panasonic
      • NEC
    • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
    • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
• Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
Target pay rate is $43.50 commensurate with experience
