Job summary

Bowhead seeks a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician for base telecom support at Whidbey Island, WA. The PBX Technician will provide telecommunications operations and maintenance and will require both in-office and in-field experience.

On-the-job training is offered after 30 days of employment. Weekly travel to remote locations is required using a company vehicle. The role ensures DoD/Navy compliant switch systems and includes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Requires Associate’s degree or higher in IT or Cybersecurity (preferred).
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• IAT Level II (DoD 8570.01-M) required, with COMPTIA Security+ certification.
• Prior DoD network experience preferred.
• Certification reimbursements offered after 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain government-owned PBX telephony switches (Nortel Meridian Option 81C).
• Troubleshoot and repair switch issues; perform software updates and patching.
• Install and configure switch hardware; daily operation monitoring.
• Support voicemail systems and IPE (Remote Intelligent Peripheral Equipment).
• Travel to remote locations weekly using company vehicle.
• Ensure switch systems remain operational and DoD/Navy compliant.
• Other duties as assigned.

Overview

Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician (PSTS-2026-25830):

Bowhead seeks to network with a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician for a future or upcoming tasking to provide Base Telecom Support at the Whidbey Island, WA. The Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician effort will provide telecommunications operations and maintenance (O&M). This position will require both in office and infield experienceand duties.

On job and verification training is offered for all full time Bowhead employees after 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

Job duties incude but are not limited to:

• Operate and maintain government-owned telephony switches (PBX), including:
  • Nortel Meridian Option 81C
• Perform:
  • Troubleshooting and repair of switch issues
  • Software updates and patching
  • Installation and configuration of switch hardwareDaily operation monitoring

Qualifications

  • 2 years of relevant experience required.
  • 5 years relevant experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience within DoD networks highly preferred.

• Preferred skills or certifications:
  • Avaya Certified Support Specialist (ACSS) or equivalent

• Key System experience sought:

• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts

Targeted pay range is $36.44/hr- 45.00/hr based on interview and experience.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
