Job summary

Pacific Gas and Electric Company seeks a Principal System Specialist to provide leadership and field support for substation high voltage maintenance and construction. You will collaborate with engineering and operations to resolve complex issues and maintain critical technical documentation.

The role requires hands-on expertise, travel ~30%, and a commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement across 4kV-500kV systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 10+ years of relevant experience with at least 4 years in distribution planning or related engineering projects.
• Technical Training Certification (COMPTIA), Journeyman certification.
• Certified Journeyman Electrician or Electrical Technician/Tester.
• 5+ years testing, commissioning, or troubleshooting of substation equipment.
• NETA certification (Level 2+) preferred.
• Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership within the department and guide cross-functional teams.
• Develop strategic direction and deliver innovative solutions based on best practices.
• Apply advanced SME knowledge to solve complex problems and improve performance.
• Lead enterprise-wide initiatives and manage multiple large projects.
• Provide senior technical support to field crews for complex maintenance, commissioning, troubleshooting, and emergent equipment issues.
• Support audits, data requests, and technical documentation governance.
• Lead and/or support development and delivery of technical training.
• Maintain and update technical procedures and control documents.
• Support and review investigations of equipment failures and human factor-related events.
• Participate in QC/QA activities and travel for factory/vendor audits.
• Review asset health and interpret electrical test results.
