Job summary

Electric Power Engineers, LLC is seeking a Principal Engineer, Substation Engineering to lead and mature the firm’s physical substation engineering capabilities. This role combines technical leadership, design oversight, and QA/QC across complex substation projects, from conceptual work through construction support, interfacing with P&C, civil/structural, and utility operations.

The ideal candidate has 12+ years of electric utility substation experience, a PE license, and a proven track record

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• PE license with ability to obtain licensure in additional jurisdictions.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in electric utility substation engineering and design.
• Experience as Lead Engineer or Technical Lead for utility substation projects.
• Strong knowledge of physical substation design, equipment layouts, and standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technical authority for physical substation engineering and design.
• Lead engineering development from conceptual to detailed design and construction support.
• Provide leadership for greenfield and brownfield substations and equipment upgrades.
• Develop and apply engineering standards, QA/QC processes, and design criteria.
• Mentor engineers and designers and grow technical ownership within the team.
• Collaborate across P&C, civil/structural, transmission, and distribution disciplines.
• Support client meetings, design reviews, and project delivery activities.
