Job summary

Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis, Indiana seeks a Mixed Modality (Oligonucleotide) Principal Scientist to lead the transfer of oligonucleotide processes from development to pilot plant operations, enabling early-phase cGMP manufacturing for clinical supply. You will work with CMC, Product R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure plant readiness and scale-up.

The role requires a BS/MS in chemistry or related field and 7+ years of oligonucleotide experience, with strong data analysis,

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 7+ years (MS) or 10+ years (BS) in oligonucleotide product/process development or related roles.
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; visa sponsorship not provided.
• Experience with oligonucleotide synthesis, cleavage, purification, and related processing.
• Strong data analysis, root cause analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Oversee transfer of oligonucleotide processes from development to manufacturing; ensure scalability.
• Assess and scale-up synthesis and purification methods from early-phase development labs.
• Familiar with solid-phase synthesis, preparative chromatography, TFF, lyophilization.
• Evaluate safety of procedures with safety group and process engineering.
• Lead plant readiness activities for synthesis, cleavage, purification, TFF, and lyophilization.
