Job summary

Electric Power Engineers, LLC is seeking a Principal Private Grid Architecture and Controls Engineer to join the Energy Resources team. You will lead design and development of advanced Private Grid control systems for hyperscale and AI data center campuses, coordinating with OEMs, BESS, and EMS to ensure reliable operation and seamless transitions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in power system controls, Private Grids, and power generation.
• Demonstrated experience designing and commissioning utility-scale Private Grid control systems.
• Strong understanding of synchronous generators, inverter-based resources, and BESS.
• Expertise in dynamic system behavior, stability analysis, and control system design.
• Experience with industrial control platforms, PLCs, SCADA, and EMS.
• Excellent technical communication and senior client-facing skills.
• Professional Engineer license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of Private Grid control systems for hyperscale data centers.
• Define control philosophy for grid-connected, islanded, and black-start modes.
• Develop control strategies for interconnection, on-site generation, BESS, and renewables.
• Design hierarchical control architectures: plant-level, PPC, EMS, and supervisory systems.
• Develop algorithms for active/reactive power, frequency/voltage regulation, dispatch, and spinning reserve.
• Lead integration of governors, excitation, protection, and plant control systems.
• Ensure stable operation during disturbances and transitions to reconnection.
• Coordinate integration with OEMs, BESS suppliers, UPS, switchgear, and SCADA providers.
• Develop communication architectures (IEC 61850, Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3).
• Validate performance via HIL, FAT, SAT, and commissioning.
