Job summary

Electric Power Engineers (EPE) is seeking a Principal Private Grid Architecture and Controls Engineer to join our Energy Resources team. You will work with senior leadership to grow the practice and provide SME coaching to staff and clients.

You will lead design of Private Grid control systems for hyperscale data centers, define control philosophies, and coordinate integration across vendors, BESS, EMS, and PLC/SCADA platforms, while ensuring reliability under disturbances.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
• At least 10 years in power system controls, Private Grids, and generation.
• Experience designing and commissioning utility-scale Private Grid control systems.
• Strong knowledge of synchronous generators, IBRs, and BESS.
• Expertise in dynamic systems, stability analysis, and control design.
• Experience with PLCs, SCADA, EMS, and industrial control platforms.
• Professional Engineer license preferred.
• Experience with hyperscale AI data center power infra is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of Private Grid control systems for data center campuses.
• Define control philosophy for grid-connected, islanded, black-start, and reconnection modes.
• Develop control strategies across interconnection, CHP, BESS, renewables, and critical loads.
• Design hierarchical architectures: plant controllers, PPC, EMS, and SCADA.
• Develop active/reactive power, frequency/voltage, load sharing, and dispatch schemes.
• Coordinate integration with generator OEMs, BESS, UPS, switchgear, SCADA, and EPC.
• Validate performance via HIL, FAT, SAT, and commissioning.
• Mentor engineers and establish engineering standards and guidelines.
• Support business development activities.
