Job summary

City of Austin's Transmission & Sub Station Protection Engineering Team is seeking a Power System Principal Engineer in Austin to provide expert protection engineering for transmission and substation assets. You will lead protection studies, develop settings, ensure regulatory compliance, and serve as a technical reference for complex projects.

The role requires mentorship of engineers, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and the ability to work independently with minimal direction while

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with 8 years of engineering experience.
• PE license in Texas or able to obtain within 1 year.
• Strong knowledge of NERC, FERC, ERCOT and TX PUC standards.
• Ability to travel to multiple sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Develops technical specifications and standards for electric utility projects.
• Plans, designs, and implements protection studies and protection schemes.
• Leads budgeting, forecasting, and contract management for projects.
• Mentors other protection engineers and leads cross-functional teams.
• Ensures regulatory compliance and alignment with industry standards.
