Job summary

Haydon Healy is seeking a Power Systems Engineer to join our Texas-based team. The role focuses on power system studies, substations, protection, and challenging power delivery projects.

The candidate will perform load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, arc-flash analyses, and support substation/transmission design, while ensuring compliance with NERC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and NEC standards. Hybrid/remote work options are available.

Qualifications

• Experience in power systems, substations or transmission.
• Experience with power system studies and analysis.
• Strong understanding of electrical protection and power delivery systems.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with utility clients.

Responsibilities

• Performing power system studies including load flow, short circuit, voltage drop and arc-flash analysis.
• Supporting the engineering and design of substation and transmission projects.
• Developing and reviewing electrical one-lines, schematics and engineering calculations.
• Performing protection and coordination studies.
• Supporting substation equipment selection and system design.
• Working with transformers, breakers, CTs, PTs, switchgear and protection systems.
• Using software such as ETAP, SKM, ASPEN or CAPE.
• Supporting relay protection and control engineering where required.
• Reviewing engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Working closely with utility clients, project managers and other engineering disciplines.
• Supporting field teams, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
• Ensuring designs meet applicable NERC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI and NEC standards.
• Participating in technical reviews and QA/QC processes.

We’re working with a growing substation engineering company in Texas that is looking for a talented Power Systems Engineer to join their team.

This is a great opportunity for an engineer with experience in power system studies, substations, protection, and utility projects who is looking to take on more technical responsibility and work on challenging power delivery projects.

The Role

What We're Looking For

• Experience in power systems, substations or transmission
• Experience with power system studies and analysis
• Strong understanding of electrical protection and power delivery systems
• Experience with ETAP, SKM, ASPEN, CAPE or similar software
• Knowledge of substation equipment and electrical systems
• Strong understanding of IEEE, ANSI, NESC and NEC standards
• EIT or PE preferred
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with utility clients
