Job summary

Austin Energy seeks a Power System Engineer to design and support electric utility facilities, including generation, substations, and transmission. You will perform power system studies, prepare technical documents, and support SCADA/EMS integration while coordinating with field teams and other City departments.

The role emphasizes adherence to NERC/FERC/ERCOt standards, safety, and project leadership within the Power Production and Electrical Services Delivery team. Hybrid work is available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 5+ years in related engineering.
• Knowledge of electric utility operations, standards and codes.
• Ability to prepare reports, design documents, and cost estimates.
• Understanding of regulatory requirements and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Design and assist in design of electric utility facilities including generation, substations, transmission and distribution.
• Perform power system studies (protective relay coordination, fault studies, load flows, reliability, power quality, voltage stability).
• Prepare drawings, diagrams, data bases, and plans for electrical facilities and SCADA/EMS.
• Support project energization and coordinate with field personnel; assist in budget and planning.
• Develop procedures and assist in regulatory compliance and safety standards.
