Job description

Responsibilities
  • Provides a diversified range of technical services to internal and external customers supporting company and division goals.
  • Disposes of referred, non‑conforming and off‑standard material, including RMRs and customer claims.
  • Provides training and education to key customers.
  • Leads and mentors less‑experienced staff.
  • Supports, leads and guides peers, customers and managers on key projects and opportunities.
  • Leads others in the use of statistical methods and experimental design.
  • Manages functional project teams to solve complex technical problems, recognize business trends for alloy and process development, and plan and budget projects.
  • Recognizes and communicates technical risk to management.
  • Applies SPC, Six‑Sigma and/or BPI tools to identify project inefficiencies.
  • Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, materials science or a related field.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience.
  • Interprets internal/external business issues and recommends best practices within the function.
  • Has developed depth and breadth of expertise in own function.
  • Effectively manages projects or teams and coordinates resources outside the own area.
  • Forecasts and plans resource requirements for projects or teams.
  • Monitors and controls costs for own work and may manage budgets for larger projects or areas.
  • Advanced knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment.
  • Knowledge of the newest and latest technologies available.
  • Functional knowledge of statistics, Six‑Sigma and/or BPI practices.
  • Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
  • Anticipates customer needs, assesses requirements and identifies new solutions.
  • Leads others to resolve complex problems in non‑standard situations and develop creative solutions.
  • Organizes and prioritizes tasks and makes appropriate decisions.
  • Willingness to travel and to access mill and manufacturing areas.
  • Assists others in the use of statistical methods and supports experimental design.
  • Provides training and education to key customers.
  • Supports, leads and guides peers, customers and managers on key projects and opportunities.
  • Responds to internal and external customer needs in a timely and effective manner.
  • Is self‑directed and serves as a mentor to internal resources when requested.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Initiates, leads and participates in project teams as appropriate.
