Job description

Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage Metallurgy Characterization Programs and Special Projects.
  • Lead characterization and reporting related to industry requirements including JENQC.
  • Lead and support qualification of new processes and equipment.
  • Establish goals and objectives in support of the SAO plan aimed at producing a reliable, cost-effective, consistent, quality product for customers.
  • Participate with the manager in the development of short and long‑term plans for the assigned Technology group and ensure performance against those plans.
  • Manage to ensure that expeditious metallurgical support is provided, when required, to Manufacturing, R&D, and other departments.
  • Evaluate and execute, when appropriate, requests for experimental orders.
  • Develop and maintain strong cooperative and productive working relationships with peers, subordinates, and superiors in all departments.
  • Work with the Metallurgy Leadership Team to develop knowledge and skills in strategy/plan development and alignment, as well as leadership of broad quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as an adviser and business partner for the Metallurgy Leadership Team.
  • Develop solid relationships across the enterprise to enable smooth implementation of corporate initiatives and other critical business changes.
  • Understand operational excellence and use those tools to drive process improvements.
  • Mentor and participate in career development of junior metallurgists.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials or Quality Science, or a related area.
  • 10+ years of total work experience in a technical or metallurgy staff position.
  • Experience managing a staff (preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to compile, research, and analyze information.
  • Ability to compose and present comprehensive reports.
  • Business/Management Expertise: Applies broad business and management expertise to drive financial and operational performance across multiple departments and/or functions.
  • Functional Expertise: Extensively knowledgeable within own function and generally knowledgeable about other disciplines within the organization.
  • Strategic Planning: Develops area/departmental plans, including business, production and/or organizational priorities.
  • Financial Management: Manages resources to ensure financial and operational objectives are met.
