Job summary

Overview

Carpenter Technology Corporation is a leading producer and distributor of premium specialty alloys, including titanium alloys, nickel and cobalt based superalloys, stainless steels, alloy steels and tool steels. Carpenter Technology's high-performance materials and advanced process solutions support critical applications in aerospace, transportation, medical and energy markets, among others. Its wrought and powder technology capabilities support next-generation products and manufacturing techniques, including novel magnetic materials and additive manufacturing.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and Manage Metallurgy Characterization Programs and Special Projects.
  • Lead characterization and reporting related to industry requirements including JENQC.
  • Lead and Support qualification of new processes and equipment.
  • Establish goals and objectives in support of the SAO plan aimed at producing a reliable, cost-effective, consistent, quality product for our customers.
  • Participate with manager in the development of short and long term plans for assigned Technology group and ensure performance against plan.
  • Manage to ensure that expeditious metallurgical support is provided to Manufacturing, R&D, and other departments as necessary.
  • Evaluate, and execute when appropriate, requests for experimental orders. Develop and maintain strong cooperative and productive working relationships with peers, subordinates and superiors in all departments.
  • Work with Metallurgy Leadership Team to develop knowledge and skills in strategy/plan development and alignment and leadership of broad quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as an adviser and business partner for the Metallurgy Leadership Team.
  • Develop solid relationships across the enterprise to enable smooth implementation of corporate initiatives and other critical business changes.
  • Understand operational excellence and use those tools to drive process improvements.
  • Mentor and participate in career development of junior metallurgists.
Required for the Manager - Metallurgy Special Projects
  • Bachelor's degree in Material or Quality Science, or related area.
  • 10+ years of total work experience in a technical or metallurgy staff position. Experience managing a staff preferred.
Preferred for the Manager - Metallurgy Special Projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to compile, research, and analyze information.
  • Ability to compose and present comprehensive reports.
  • Business/Management Expertise: Applies broad business and management expertise to drive financial and operational performance across multiple departments and/or functions.
  • Functional Expertise: Has extensive knowledge and experience within own function and general knowledge of areas, departments and/or function(s) within and across other disciplines.
  • Strategic Planning: Develops area/departmental plans including business, production and/or organizational priorities.
  • Financial Management: Manages resources to ensure financial and operational objectives are met.
