Job summary

RTX is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the Air Defense Ground Equipment Mechanical Design Department in an onsite role in US MA. You will lead mechanical design, development, and integration of critical defense platform systems, including radar and shelters, with a focus on program execution and production support.

Collaboration across disciplines and suppliers is essential. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in concept to production, strong CAD skills (ProE/CREO)

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 8+ years experience or an advanced degree with 5+ years experience.
• Experience spanning concept development, detailed design, transition to production, and sustainment.
• Experience in mechanical design, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience in CAD design tools, ProE and CREO, including Large Assembly Management.
• Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform ME design, development, and documentation of components, subassemblies, and major end items.
• Oversee small to mid-sized cross-functional engineering teams as the technical execution lead across all phases—from proposal generation and program initiation
• Serve as the technical focal point for mechanical or cross-functional teams
• Provide support for product integration with domestic and international factories and suppliers.
• Collaborate with engineering and non-engineering disciplines, and suppliers, to resolve technical challenges
• Work independently with minimal supervision while ensuring schedule, cost, and technical commitments are met.
• Support and participate in design peer reviews, and conduct trade studies
• Apply ME knowledge to solve problems in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering growth and knowledge sharing within the team.
