Job summary

Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. You will tackle deep distributed systems challenges around node communication, data indexing, and cluster management in a Serverless context.

You will own design and implementation across multi-machine deployments, pushing shard and scale limits while maintaining safety and liveness of the system as a whole.

Qualifications

• Strong background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Deep Java expertise and familiarity with core data structures and concurrency.
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems with multi-machine deployments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core pieces of a next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination for high performance as nodes join/leave and data moves.
• Push limits on shard, node, and petabyte scale while ensuring safety and liveness.
• Investigate performance or concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Support engineers with hard problems and own end-to-end investigations.
