Job summary

Blue Origin in the Seattle area is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to lead the control and data plane software for the TeraWave constellation. You will shape architecture for constrained environments and real-time systems, guiding development across cross-functional teams.

You will mentor engineers, drive CI/CD practices, and collaborate with hardware and systems teams to deliver high-performance, reliable software for space applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years embedded software development in C/C++ on Linux/RTOS/Bare-metal.
• Strong proficiency in C++ OO design and implementation.
• Hands-on debugging with JTAG, SWD, CoreSight, and trace tools.
• Experience with Linux networking and high-speed data-plane interfaces.
• Experience leading software development teams and mentoring engineers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; U.S. citizenship or work authorization.

Responsibilities

• Own software architecture for one or more system areas and drive trade studies.
• Collaborate with hardware and systems teams to integrate features.
• Lead multi-threaded embedded software design on Linux/RTOS/Bare-metal.
• Define scaling, fault tolerance and recovery strategies.
• Set performance KPIs and optimize compute, memory, and I/O.
• Contribute to technical docs, reviews, and architecture decisions.
• Mentor engineers and drive delivery with speed and quality.
