Job summary

The Principal Software Engineer at AeroVironment leads and develops software for unmanned and robotic systems used in defense and commercial applications. Focused on embedded software for devices like aircraft and payloads, you will design, code, test, and debug to improve efficiency, stability, and scalability.

You will drive cross-disciplinary collaboration, manage software lifecycle, and guide the transition of development software to production and certification, including flight-test

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related field is required or equivalent.
• Minimum 12 - 15 years of relevant experience.
• Proficient with Python, C, C++11, C++ STL and/or OpenCL.
• Experience with Visual Studio, Eclipse or similar IDE and defect tracking tools.
• Experienced with common protocols such as RS-485, RS-232, CAN, I2C, SPI, USB.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Writes and tests software to support integration of sensors and embedded processors into aircraft or other robotic systems.
• Designs and implements software for prototypes and products using established tools and practices; ensures configuration control.
• Leads in writing system requirements, test plans, and validation testing of software; assists with hardware selection.
