Avalara is hiring a Principal Engineer to lead the ELR (E-Invoicing & Live Reporting) platform architecture and tooling. You will drive the technical direction for real‑time, multi‑region ELR services, shaping onboarding, ERP integration, and AI‑assisted workflows.

You will mentor engineers globally while delivering scalable backend systems, secure data handling, and developer tools that reduce onboarding time and enable compliant automatic data exchange with tax authorities worldwide.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of hands‑on software engineering with large‑scale distributed cloud systems.
• Proven track record delivering developer tools, integration platforms, onboarding engines, or enterprise middleware.
• Strong backend language proficiency: Java, C#/.NET Core, Go, or Python.

Responsabilités

• Lead architecture, technical vision, and platform evolution for ELR cloud services supporting real-time transactions.
• Design low-latency ingestion pipelines, format transformation engines, digital signature services, and dispatch gateways.
• Architect for high availability, multi‑region deployments, and strict auditability.
