Job summary

Avalara, Inc. is hiring a Principal Engineer to lead the ELR platform architecture and deliver scalable, compliant real-time invoicing and live reporting tools worldwide.

You will design low-latency ingestion, transformation engines, and AI-enabled features while mentoring global teams and defining engineering standards. This is a hands-on IC role focused on enterprise-grade, secure integrations across ERP systems.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed cloud systems.
• Strong proficiency in backend languages (Java, C#, Go, Python).
• Deep API design experience (REST, GraphQL, gRPC).
• Experience with AWS and modern DevOps tools (Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Ability to navigate complex regulatory requirements with robust abstractions.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, vision, and platform evolution for ELR cloud services.
• Design low-latency ingestion pipelines and transformation engines.
• Architect multi-region, audit-friendly, high-availability systems.
• Mentor engineers across global teams and set engineering standards.
• Embed AI-driven tooling into integration and validation pipelines.
