Mott MacDonald is looking to appoint a Principal Engineer to provide leadership for Transmission Engineering activities in our North Division.
In this role, you will lead the North Division's Transmission team, managing and growing a team of Transmission engineers and specialists. This position is ideal for a very senior candidate eager to oversee a full team and drive excellence in engineering projects. It involves hands-on engineering with a broad knowledge of electrical utility experience, engineering principles, and practices acquired through progressive experience and education. You are expected to work collaboratively, help develop the brand, leverage skills to win and deliver work in New York, New Jersey, and New England, and support the international team and wider projects.
Responsibilities typically include:
- Lead and mentor a team of Transmission engineers and specialists, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Develop and implement strategies to grow the North Division, ensuring the team is equipped to handle increasing project demands.
- Drive performance and accountability within the team, setting clear goals and expectations.
- Lead design activities in accordance with applicable codes and standards, policies, and procedures.
- Review design work completed by peers, ensuring compliance with scope and QA/QC requirements.
- Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, coordinate, and monitor work activities with other multi-discipline project team members.
- Provide engineering technical expertise and guidance in problem identification, analysis, and resolution.
- Mentor and guide developing engineers within the department.
- Continuously improve engineering technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
- Support business planning, development, and training.
- Assist in business development, cost estimating, and proposal responses.
Candidate experience requirements:
- Significant knowledge of T&D Engineering with 15+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated thought leadership and project delivery with a notable market profile, including significant size assignments.
- A degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized accredited institution.
- Professional Registration: PE required; additional states are a plus.
- Management and leadership experience of a team.
- Experience working with OEMs, Contractors, and Consultants.
- Excellent communication skills.

Salary ranges:
- Massachusetts: $147,000 - $180,000
- New York: $149,000 - $182,000
- New Jersey: $140,000 - $172,000
Salary is determined based on location, education, experience, and skills.
