Upstart, a leading AI lending marketplace, seeks a Principal Data Scientist for its Product & Growth Analytics team. This remote role shapes strategic product decisions through forecasting, causal inference, and end-to-end analyses across product, marketing, and finance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in data science or quantitative roles with impact on product or business strategy.
• Master experimental design and A/B testing.
• Deep statistical expertise including causal inference methods.
• Strong coding skills.
• Experience translating data into actionable business decisions for non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to shape direction in ambiguous environments.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills.
• Exposure to ML applications and collaboration with ML teams.
• Familiarity with personalization or matching algorithms.

Responsibilities

• Identify gaps and questions; set the agenda and drive analytical strategy.
• Partner with leaders across product, finance, and ML to explain complex problems.
• Design, build, and own forecasting, spend allocation, attribution models, and incrementality analyses.
• Design and execute experiments with end-to-end ownership from hypothesis to results.
• Build metrics frameworks to guide optimization and decision-making.
• Collaborate with ML teams to tackle high-complexity challenges.
• Translate business problems into clear analytical frameworks.
• Own work end-to-end and drive organizational change based on insights.
