Job summary

Roblox is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for our Data Infra group in San Mateo, CA. You will own the strategic vision, architecture, and massive scalability of our distributed data platforms powering analytics and ML for billions of events daily.

You will lead multi-year roadmaps, drive cross-functional collaboration with platform governance, data science, and product engineering, and mentor engineers to raise the bar on code quality and reliability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building, designing, testing and maintaining production-grade, large-scale distributed systems.
• Expert-level mastery of Kafka, Flink, Spark, Trino, Druid, Hive, Airflow, or Data Catalog / metadata systems.
• Proven ability to architect and deploy core data platform code and distributed systems at hyper-scale.

Responsibilities

• Define multi-year technical strategy for Roblox's core data platforms.
• Lead cross-functional alignment with executive leadership, governance, data science, and product engineering.
• Optimize engine internals, including query planning and memory optimization.
• Pioneer AI/ML integration within the data platform for self-serve data and automation.
• Cultivate engineering excellence through code quality standards and incident analysis.
