Job summary

Roblox in San Mateo, CA seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead Kubernetes infrastructure across on-prem and cloud platforms at massive scale. You will shape architectural direction and drive platform reliability while balancing innovation with stability.

You will mentor senior engineers, advance security and multi-tenancy designs, and partner with leadership to define the compute roadmap, ensuring a seamless, high-performance experience for Roblox developers and users.

Qualifications

10 years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
Kubernetes internals expertise (custom controllers/operators/upstream contributions).
Experience scaling mission-critical infrastructure platforms serving thousands of nodes or high-throughput services.
Strong cloud-native security, identity, and container networking knowledge.
Proven ability to communicate complex concepts and lead cross-functional initiatives.

Responsibilities

Architectural leadership for Kubernetes ecosystem and platform strategy.
Design intuitive interfaces and tooling for internal customers to consume compute services.
Deep-dive engineering to optimize control plane and reduce bottlenecks.
Ensure robust multi-tenancy with security and isolation.
Lead automation, observability, and self-healing systems for high uptime.
Mentor senior engineers and influence roadmap across teams.
