Job summary

Apex Companies, LLC. in Boise, Idaho seeks a Principal Engineer to lead a civil engineering team and shape the firm’s growth across the western U.S.

You will drive technical leadership, client partnerships, business strategy, and staff development while maintaining local leadership and relationships that fuel Apex’s success. You will mentor staff, manage projects and budgets, and contribute to strategic planning and client development across the region.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Professional Engineer registration.
• 10+ years of civil engineering experience.
• A record of leading multidisciplinary project teams and building strong client relationships.
• Project management experience, including proposals, scopes, budgets, and successful project execution.
• A genuine commitment to mentoring staff and developing high performing teams.
• Experience with strategic planning, client development, and operational oversight.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal judgment.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineers and technical staff across infrastructure projects from planning and design through bidding and construction.
• Solve complex client challenges through practical, responsive, and value driven engineering solutions.
• Mentor and develop staff, creating opportunities for people to expand their skills, take on greater responsibility, and advance their careers.
• Build trusted client relationships and identify new opportunities through thoughtful engagement, networking, proposals, and presentations.
• Drive project and operational excellence by overseeing schedules, budgets, technical quality, workload, and execution.
• Partner with division leadership on strategic planning, business development, and client relationship management across the western U.S.
• Play a central role in talent development, succession planning, and the long term strength of the organization.
• Help refine and execute the firm’s strategy and growth plan while guiding the day to day operations and profitability of the Boise office.
