Job summary

Trellis is seeking a Principal Software Engineer on the Conversational AI team to shape AI-driven customer experiences. You’ll architect and build scalable systems powering natural, engaging conversations between users and our platform.

You’ll lead complex projects by defining scope, guiding technical direction, mentoring teammates, and performing rigorous code reviews as we evolve our LLM-driven infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience developing software in a production environment.
• 2+ years’ experience in a senior engineer role.
• Production experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Proven experience designing RESTful APIs and codifying business logic on data stores.
• Exceptional ability to communicate clearly, especially in Slack and technical docs.
• Experience in product development where you were a key decision maker.
• Deep expertise in system architecture and design.
• Proven success in operational excellence and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Guide your team in delivering high quality, well tested technical solutions with oversight.
• Lead by example through the quality of your code and approach to work.
• Own projects through the full software development lifecycle from planning to maintenance.
• Translate conceptual work into detailed tech plans for leadership review.
• Design experiments and high-value projects aligned with business and engineering strategies.
• Navigate complex systems to identify challenges and craft plans to address them.
• Own system quality and provide constructive feedback to team members.
• Mentor and onboard new engineering hires.
