Job summary

Trellis is hiring a Director of Engineering to scale a fast-growing team building AI-driven healthcare infrastructure. You will set engineering bar, make high-leverage technical and organizational calls, and build a team that ships fast without compromising patient care.

You will report to the co-founder and CTO, partner with deployments and GTM, and shape the roadmap to meet rapidly expanding product needs while maintaining system reliability and security.

Qualifications

• Experience leading engineering teams at fast-growing early-stage startups (seed to Series B) and scaling teams quickly.
• Strong technical background with credibility with senior engineers; capable of deep architectural work.
• Track record of hiring and developing great engineers.
• Experience setting engineering practices that increase speed and quality.
• Experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or AI/agentic products is a plus.
• Healthcare experience is a plus.
• High ownership, clear communication, and comfort with ambiguity.

Responsibilities

• Scale the team: Hire, onboard, and grow engineers and engineering managers as headcount doubles, and set hiring bar.
• Set how we build: Own engineering practices, including environments, testing, code review, and shipping processes.
• Make the big technical calls: Drive architecture and vendor decisions across agent platform, Windows session fleet, and integrations (TypeScript, AWS, Temporal).
• Keep the system reliable: Ensure infrastructure scales past billions in therapies processed.
• Unblock the team: Remove blockers and align pods on priorities.
• Partner across the company: Work with founders, deployments, and GTM to map customer needs to a deliverable roadmap.
