Job summary

DEPT® is seeking a Principal Engineer to anchor technical direction across backend and frontend considerations for distributed systems and data platforms. You will own end-to-end architectures, mentor engineers, and lead client workshops while collaborating with product, design, sales, and finance to deliver high-value software solutions.

The role emphasizes GenAI integration, API design, and modern web frameworks (Angular/Typescript) with cloud familiarity (GCP/AWS/Azure).

Qualifications

>7+ years writing software used by lots of people in the real world.
>3+ years developing in Python with deep expertise across stacks.
>Expert-level knowledge of backend architecture, API design, and system design patterns.
>Familiarity with agent development and LLM concepts; cost, relevancy, speed tradeoffs.
>Experience with GenAI productivity tools in real development workflows.
>Proficiency with APIs and system integration.
>Strong understanding of database platforms (SQL & NoSQL).
>Hands-on with modern web frameworks (Angular/Typescript).
>Experience with one or more cloud providers (GCP/AWS/Azure).
>Docker containerization and CI/CD tooling.

Responsibilities

Lead the architectural design of complex backend and distributed systems end to end.
Take full ownership of workstreams and remove blockers.
Document scope, estimates, timelines, and risks; flag gaps early.
Act as technical consultant to clients; run presentations and workshops.
Evaluate proposals for client value and practicality.
Mentor junior engineers; build a culture of collaboration.
Lead smaller project teams and partner with cross-functional roles.
