Job summary

DEPT® is a Growth Invention company helping brands grow faster. The Principal Engineer role focuses on backend architecture, distributed systems, and GenAI initiatives across a global tech environment.

You will lead design decisions, mentor engineers, and communicate with product, design, marketing, and executives to deliver valuable software. You will work on distributed services, data platforms, and API design, with frontend considerations and client workshops.

Qualifications

• 7+ years writing software used by many people in real-world environments.
• 3+ years developing in Python.
• Expert knowledge of backend architecture, API design, and system design patterns.
• Familiarity with agent development and LLM concepts.
• Experience using GenAI productivity tools in real development workflows.
• Strong frontend awareness with modern web frameworks (Angular/TypeScript).
• Experience with major cloud providers (Google Cloud, AWS, Azure).
• Docker proficiency and containerization skills.
• Version control, Agile processes, and CI/CD tooling.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design of complex backend and distributed systems end to end.
• Own workstreams and remove blockers, driving timelines and risks.
• Ensure clear documentation of scope, estimates, and timelines for projects.
• Act as a technical consultant to clients with presentations and workshops.
• Assess whether work maximizes client value and adjust when needed.
• Mentor junior engineers to share knowledge and foster collaboration.
• Lead smaller project teams and collaborate with product, design, and PMs.
