Job summary

DocuSign is seeking a Principal Engineer for the Enterprise Application Technology Engineering team. You will define architectural direction for AI-powered marketing, sales, and commerce platforms, operating as a senior technologist with strategic and hands-on influence.

You will mentor engineers, lead cross-team design decisions, and drive scalable, secure architectures while enabling AI, data, and automation to improve customer experiences and go-to-market effectiveness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 15+ years of software engineering, marketing, sales, commerce knowledge, with data-intensive platforms.
• Experience designing and evolving complex distributed architectures used by multiple teams.
• Experience in AI-adjacent systems, data platforms, automation, or intelligent decisioning at scale.
• Experience with microservices architectures, containerization, and orchestration such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience in backend languages such as Java, Kotlin, Python, or Node.js.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, and distributed data/streaming platforms such as Kafka, Spark, and Hive.
• Cloud platform experience across AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Responsibilities

• Define and steward long-term, scalable architecture for marketing, sales, commerce, and AI platforms.
• Lead the design and adoption of AI-enabled capabilities, including data pipelines, feature stores, and model integration patterns.
• Own end-to-end architecture of distributed marketing, sales, and commerce systems for scalability and security.
• Partner with senior leaders to guide architectural decisions and align technical direction with business priorities.
• Provide technical leadership across the go-to-market ecosystem, ensuring cohesive integration across systems.
• Establish and uphold technical standards and best practices to drive quality and rigor.
• Mentor senior and lead engineers and model strong ownership and architectural thinking.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and guide responsible adoption to keep the ecosystem modern.
