Lumen invites a Senior Principal Software Architect to lead broad architectural efforts across DJAS, applying formal architecture practices and modern design patterns to complex, multi-system problems including AI-augmented domains.

You will mentor teams, drive design reviews, and ensure cross-cutting concerns are addressed while partnering with cloud and security architects in a mostly remote US context.

Qualifications

• AI-first practitioner — integrates AI tools as routine
• Classically trained software architecture background
• Deep expertise in distributed systems: microservices, event-driven, saga patterns
• Non-functional requirements design: performance, reliability, scalability, observability, security
• Observability architecture: OpenTelemetry, metrics, distributed tracing, alerting
• Security architecture integration: threat modeling, secure design patterns

Responsibilities

• Apply architecture principles to DJAS design work: microservices, event-driven patterns
• Lead architecture design sessions and design reviews, surface tradeoffs and NF(R)s
• Define architecture governance and standardize best practices
• Evaluate modern architecture patterns beyond current approaches
• Apply AI-augmented engineering practices safely and observably
• Architect for operational excellence: observability, chaos engineering, runbooks
• Bridge architecture and implementation, ensure design intent is met
• Mentor architects and engineers on fundamentals and patterns
• Collaborate with cloud, IAM/security, and domain architects
