Hire Score LLC in the Greater Sacramento region seeks a President or Chief Operating Officer to lead a privately held, asset-intensive operating business with significant physical assets and a path to substantial growth. You will own operating execution, build the leadership team, and create discipline to scale the organization while remaining highly visible across field operations.

Qualifications

• Significant senior operating leadership in an asset‑intensive, field‑based business such as trucking, waste management, grading and paving, demolition, heavy construction, equipment services, or a comparable multi‑site operation.
• Full P&L responsibility with direct accountability for revenue, margin, people, customers, and operating results.
• Experience leading and scaling a business, division, or region of meaningful size and complexity, including responsibility for a shop, fleet, field operations, or multiple operating units.
• Direct experience operating a company‑owned or dedicated truck fleet.
• Strong working knowledge of dispatch, fleet utilization, maintenance, drivers, DOT compliance, safety, and cost‑per‑mile economics.
• A record of improving performance through stronger leaders, clear accountability, disciplined processes, accurate metrics, and consistent follow‑through.
• Experience leading frontline teams across multiple locations or operating units.
• Evidence of successfully developing leaders and building a stronger management bench.
• Willingness to work on‑site in the Greater Sacramento region and remain highly visible in field operations.

Responsibilities

• Assume full responsibility for day‑to‑day operating and financial performance.
• Lead general managers, operations leaders, dispatch, fleet and maintenance, shop operations, project teams, and other functional leaders.
• Translate annual objectives into clear operating priorities, measurable KPIs, and weekly accountability.
• Build an effective management structure that allows the company to scale without unnecessary bureaucracy.
• Establish clear decision rights and take operating responsibility off the Founder/CEO's desk as quickly as practical.
• Lead an operation that relies heavily on company‑owned and dedicated trucks, drivers, heavy equipment, and field resources.
• Improve dispatch execution, on‑time performance, route and load efficiency, and communication among customers, drivers, yards, and field teams.
• Increase fleet utilization and uptime through stronger maintenance discipline, replacement planning, shop performance, and capital decisions.
• Manage critical metrics including revenue per truck, cost per mile, equipment utilization, fuel, downtime, labor productivity, and driver performance.
• Ensure disciplined DOT, safety, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
• Own the operating P&L, budgeting, forecasting, margins, overhead, and performance against plan.
• Work closely with finance to improve billing accuracy, receivables, working capital, job costing, and cash conversion.
• Use operating and financial data to identify problems early and drive corrective action.
• Improve profitability by customer, job, service line, asset, and operating location.
• Bring greater predictability and discipline to forecasting and resource planning.
• Identify the people, equipment, processes, and systems required to support organic growth and stronger operating performance.
• Recruit, assess, develop, and, when necessary, upgrade members of the leadership team.
• Create clear performance expectations, succession plans, and development opportunities for strong internal leaders.
• Build repeatable operating processes that can be applied consistently across the business.
• Identify practical opportunities to improve dispatch, fleet operations, field workflows, billing, finance, customer service, safety, and management reporting.
• Use reliable operating data, dashboards, automation, and appropriate technology - including AI where it adds clear value - to improve execution and decision‑making.
• Lead adoption across the organization and hold internal leaders and outside partners accountable for measurable operating and financial results.
• Translate the company's five‑year growth goals into a practical operating plan.
• Ensure the organization has the leadership, capacity, equipment, and processes to support new customers, services, locations, and markets.
• Protect customer service, safety, margins, and operating performance as the business grows.
• Maintain disciplined pricing, resource allocation, and margin expectations.
• Build the operating infrastructure required to grow without adding unnecessary complexity or bureaucracy.
• Identify the people, equipment, processes, and systems required to support organic growth and stronger operating performance.
