Job summary

Armed Services YMCA National Headquarters is seeking a caring preschool assistant to support an enriching early learning program for military families. You will help implement curriculum, manage learning centers, and interact with children and caregivers to foster development in a structured environment.

The role emphasizes safeguarding children, maintaining classroom order, and communicating progress with families, while coordinating with the Branch Director on attendance and program materials.

Qualifications

• Experience working with preschool age children.
• Able to stand and sit throughout the day.
• Awareness of child safety and reporting procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with delivering an enriching early learning program (morning circle, centers, desk work, closing circle).
• Vary activities in learning centers to provide different developmental opportunities.
• Model positive behaviors for children and families; implement a behavior plan.
• Inform parents about child development through discussions and progress reports.
• Prepare materials prior to each preschool session.
• Interact with parents/caregivers and children, modeling appropriate behavior.
• Maintain attendance for program participants and communicate with Branch Director.
• Submit weekly sign-in rosters and timely lesson plans for review.
• Ensure timesheets are completed daily and submitted on time.
• Attend mandatory trainings and staff meetings as scheduled.
• Maintain orderly classroom and sanitize/store toys daily.
