Job summary

Armed Services YMCA seeks a part-time preschool assistant to support a structured early learning program at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. You will help execute activities, maintain a safe classroom, and communicate with parents about child development and progress.

The role requires reliability, ability to model positive behavior, and experience with preschool children within a military community. Expect collaboration with staff and regular trainings.

Qualifications

• Experience working with preschool age children.
• Ability to stand and sit for extended periods.
• Understanding of issues military families undergo.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher to develop and deliver an enriching early learning program with morning circle, learning centers, desk work and closing circle.
• Vary activities in learning centers and desk work to provide developmental opportunities.
• Model appropriate behaviors for children and guide parents on interactions.
• Inform parents about child development through discussions and progress reports.
• Prepare materials needed prior to each preschool session.
• Interact with parents/caregivers and children, modeling positive behavior.
• Follow all Child Abuse reporting procedures.
• Maintain attendance for participants and communicate issues to Branch Director.
• Submit weekly sign-in rosters to the Branch Director.
• Submit on-time monthly lesson plans for review.
• Fill out timesheets accurately and by the end of each pay period.
• Maintain classroom in an orderly manner.
• Organize, sanitize and store toys/materials daily for order.
• Ensure toys/equipment are in good working order and report replacements as needed.
• Request needed supplies from the Branch Director.
• Arrive on time daily and attend mandatory trainings and staff meetings.
• Demonstrate proper use of chain of command when addressing concerns.
• Inform staff of excessive absences.
