Job summary

Armed Services YMCA is seeking a compassionate early childhood professional to help set up a brand-new childcare development center in Virginia Beach. You will mentor staff, implement developmentally appropriate practices, and support military families and their children in a nurturing learning environment.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must hold an Associate, Bachelor, or Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education OR related field OR CDA and 12 months experience in an early childhood setting.
• Must pass Federal, State, Child Protective Services Checks and other required background checks.
• Must have knowledge of Virginia licensing regulations.
• Basic knowledge of MS Office and ProCare/childcare management software.
• Must participate in continued professional development through enrollment in formal and informal educational courses.
• Must be familiar with accreditation standards.
• Preferred to have experience with military families and their children.
• Must be able to stand/walk and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical and immunization evidence.

Responsibilities

• Mentor childcare staff and translate training into practice.
• Models appropriate behaviors and techniques for working with children.
• Consults with leadership for guidance on staff development.
• Complete ongoing assessments to support learning and development.
• Develop and implement lesson plans based on the ELM curriculum.
• Provide a nurturing, inclusive environment and safe supervision.
• Plan field trips and parent conferences as needed.
• Communicate with parents professionally and regularly.
