Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and an Associate’s degree.
• OR Completion of 48 credit hours at an Institution of Higher Education.
• OR Completion of one of the formal Massachusetts-endorsed Assessments: Parapro or WorkKeys.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; prior experience working with children.
• Have a flexible attitude and work well in teams.

Responsibilities

• May be assigned as 1:1 in an integrated preschool or as a general assistant, or in any combination thereof.
• Work with the special education team and preschool teacher to devise and implement strategies for students and modify activities to reinforce learning or behavior.
• Work with large or small groups and individuals to reinforce learning of materials introduced by the teacher.
• Assist the teacher in devising and implementing strategies for reinforcing skills of students.
• Assist in administration, scoring, and recording of student assessment (GOLD).
• Support therapeutic strategies and interventions as appropriate.
• Communicate with the teacher regarding student concerns and needs, academic and behavioral.
• Supervise students during non-class time (recess, lunch, assemblies, arrival/departure, etc.).
• Attend job-related workshops; assist in personal care per IEP as appropriate.
• Assist in classroom routine and management; serve as information source to substitute teachers.
• Supervise/lead class when lead teacher attends meetings.
