Job summary

Owen County Schools seeks an Instructional Assistant I (Special Education Classroom) to support certified staff in implementing IEP services and providing instruction to small groups. The role includes lifting and assisting students with mobility, data collection, and collaboration with therapists.

This position reports to the school principal and requires para-educator qualifications. Responsibilities include health support, clerical tasks, and helping maintain safe, supportive classroom

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; and
• Completion of the para-educator exam; or
• 64 college credit hours.
• Experience working with children in an organized setting.
• Pass the Kentucky Para-Educators Exam.

Responsibilities

• Under the guidance of the certified teacher, assist in instruction and adaptations per IEP.
• Perform clerical duties as assigned by the teacher.
• Assist with health services and self-care for students as directed.
• Assist teacher in gathering and recording student progress data.
• Assist in creating and evaluating materials for students with special needs.
• Support students across settings including resource room, regular classroom, building and community.
• Monitor and report student behavior according to policies and procedures.
• Assist with the loading/unloading of buses as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of information.
